Your alarm goes off earlier than necessary.

You check your phone, even though you know the results are not available yet. Your UCAS password suddenly feels like the most important piece of information you own, and every possible outcome begins playing through your mind.

What if your firm university confirms your place?

What if you miss the offer by one grade?

What if your results are better than expected?

What if the UCAS Hub says something you do not understand?

Results Day can feel as though several years of work are being compressed into one envelope and one morning. However, knowing the timetable and preparing for the main possible outcomes can remove much of the confusion.

The result itself may be fixed by that morning. Your response to it is not.

When Will A-Level Results Be Released in 2026?

A-Level Results Day 2026 is Thursday 13 August 2026.

This is also the official results day for AS Levels, T Levels and several Level 3 vocational and technical qualifications used for progression to higher education. Scotland follows a different timetable, with Qualifications Scotland results released on Tuesday 4 August 2026.

The official embargo on A-Level results ends at 8:00am UK time on 13 August. Schools and colleges must not give candidates their results by email, post, online portal or any other method before that time.

That does not necessarily mean your school will hand out results at exactly 8:00am.

Some centres may open at 8:00am, while others arrange collection later in the morning. Students should check the exact collection time and method directly with their school or college rather than assuming that every centre follows the same timetable. UCAS also advises students to confirm their school’s individual arrangements.

What Actually Happens at 8:00am?

At 8:00am, two related but different things happen.

First, schools and colleges are allowed to release official results to students.

Second, the UCAS Hub becomes available with updated application information, allowing applicants to see whether a university or college place has been confirmed.

The UCAS Hub does not show your individual A-Level grades.

It may tell you that your firm choice has confirmed your place, that your insurance choice has accepted you, that a decision is still pending or that you are eligible for Clearing. Your actual subject grades must normally be collected from your school or college.

This creates an unusual situation. You may open the UCAS Hub and discover that your university place is confirmed before you physically see your results.

Equally, the Hub may still show that a decision is pending. That does not automatically mean you have been rejected. A university may be waiting for missing information, checking a result or deciding whether it can accept an applicant who narrowly missed the original conditions.

Four Things to Prepare Before Results Day

1. Confirm How Your School Will Release Results

Do not wait until the evening before Results Day to discover that your school requires in-person collection or uses a portal you have forgotten how to access.

Try this instead: Check the collection time, location and method now. Ask whether teachers, careers advisers or examination staff will be available if you need help understanding your marks or discussing a review.

If you cannot attend personally, ask the school in advance about authorised collection, email or other arrangements. Do not assume a parent or friend can simply collect the results for you.

2. Prepare Your UCAS Information

A forgotten password can turn an already stressful morning into unnecessary panic.

Try this instead: Sign in to your UCAS Hub before Results Day and confirm that your email address, telephone number and other contact information are correct. Keep your UCAS Personal ID, school contact details and the admissions numbers for your firm and insurance universities somewhere accessible.

UCAS recommends having your sign-in details, Personal ID, phone and important contact information prepared before the day.

3. Create Three Simple Plans

Students often prepare only for failure. A strong Results Day plan should cover several possibilities.

Try this instead: Write down what you will do if:

Your firm place is confirmed

Your insurance place is confirmed

You are unplaced or want to explore Clearing

You receive a changed-course offer

Your application remains pending

You perform better than expected but have changed your mind

Clearing is already open, and vacancies have been listed since 2 July 2026. Eligible applicants can add a Clearing choice from 1:00pm on A-Level Results Day, giving students time to speak with universities before formally entering a choice.

4. Know What to Do if a Result Looks Wrong

A disappointing grade does not automatically mean a marking error, and a review of marking is not simply a second attempt to earn a higher score.

Try this instead: Speak to your teacher or examinations officer. Ask how far the mark is from the next grade boundary and whether the script or marking provides a reasonable basis for requesting a review.

For A Levels where a university or further-education place depends on the outcome, schools and colleges can request a priority review of marking. The 2026 deadline for awarding bodies to receive priority requests is 20 August, and awarding organisations aim to complete them by 3 September. Grades can go down, remain unchanged or go up, so student consent is required.

Students should also inform the university that a review has been requested. The awarding body will notify UCAS of a resulting grade change, but it will not tell UCAS merely that a review is underway.
