Teaching experience

During my A level study, I tutored lower school students in GCSE Maths and Biology on a casual basis. I also have experience in working for the Sutton Trust summer school where I acted as a subject mentor to sixth form students from under privileged backgrounds considering applying to the University of Cambridge for Natural Sciences.

Approach

I approach tutoring in a student-led way, with close alignment to the specification and an exam-froward approach. I have received extensive teaching and tutoring in the UK education system ' myself, so I am able to understand students' struggles and the specifications that are to be followed closely. I like to structure lessons by opening with a warm-up task to confirm foundational principles and gaps in knowledge, based around one or a few specification points that the student may have highlighted as a problem area. Then I deconstruct the core concepts and work through some practise questions together. Finally, I wrap up with an independent past paper-style question to consolidate learning from the session. This is entirely flexible to the students wants and needs, and can be adapted based on the level of the student.
