I am a PhD student in Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh my research focuses on language change and my expertise is in Latin and early Romance.

I have taught undergraduate classes at the University of Edinburgh for four years. I am experienced in teaching linguistic theory (phonology, syntax, and semantics) as well as the history of English. As a tutor in Linguistics and English Language, I have experience teaching sociolinguistics, child language acquisition, and language change and am well equipped to tutor students studying English Language A-level and GSCE. I have worked as a private tutor since 2020 providing one-on-one support to students studying Latin, English Language, and English Literature. I am familiar with the OCR syllabus for Latin GCSE and Alevel and the AQA, Edexcel, CIE, and, OCR syllabi for English Lang/Lit. I also offer Common Entrance and Common Scholarship tuition - I am available to support all CE subjects but of course my specialities are English and Latin. Through my CE tuition, I have helped a number of students gain entrance to top-tier English schools including Harrow.

I prioritise active learning in my classes. I work with the student talking through exercises (e.g., translation, language analysis, etc.) this allows me to identify their strengths and weaknesses. This allows me to tailor my explanations to each student's individual knowledge base and learning style. Additionally, approaching class as a conversation creates a more casual environment in which students feel comfortable to take risks and make mistakes. It is through the identification and correction of these mistakes that students learn best. In addition to subject content my teaching style promotes the development of core problem solving and academic communication skills that students can transfer to their other subjects. I have found that students almost always know more than they think they do, supportive tuition helps students become confident in their own abilities which in turn supports their intellectual development.
