About Heba

Maths can become much easier when you have someone who explains things in a way that makes sense to you. I’m a UCL Mathematics and Statistical Sciences graduate with over four years of one-to-one tutoring experience, primarily teaching GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level Maths online. I have worked with students across a wide range of abilities, from those who feel stuck and need help with the basics to those aiming for the highest grades. I understand that Maths can feel overwhelming, particularly when lessons move quickly or there are gaps in understanding. My aim is to make Maths feel clearer and more manageable. I take the time to understand where a student is struggling, explain concepts carefully and build their understanding step by step. Whether a student wants to catch up, improve their exam performance or challenge themselves further, I tailor my lessons to their individual needs and help them become more confident and independent in Maths.

Teaching experience

I have over four years of experience providing one-to-one Mathematics tuition, with more than 250 hours of GCSE and IGCSE Maths teaching, alongside experience supporting A-Level students. I have taught students with a wide range of abilities, from those needing extra support with their Maths to those working towards higher grades. I have supported students with schoolwork, exam preparation and topics they have found particularly challenging. A large part of my experience has involved GCSE and IGCSE Maths, covering topics across the course and helping students prepare for different styles of exam questions. I also have experience helping students improve their exam technique, including setting out working clearly, understanding what questions are asking and avoiding common mistakes. My aim is to make lessons useful and focused, while helping students make steady progress in the areas that matter most to them.

Approach

My teaching philosophy is centred around building both understanding and confidence. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and taking their time to think things through. Rather than focusing on memorising steps, I explain the reasoning behind the Maths and break ideas down into clear, manageable stages. I regularly check understanding and adapt my explanations when something isn’t quite clicking. I try to create a relaxed but focused environment where students feel comfortable speaking up when they are unsure. I encourage them to explain their thinking, as this helps me understand how they are approaching a problem and where they may need support. As students become more confident, I give them more opportunities to tackle questions on their own and apply what they have learned. Ultimately, I want students to leave each lesson feeling that Maths is clearer and more manageable.
